Compassionate support with expert guidance.

As a child and educational psychologist specialising in disability and neurodiversity, I’ve spent many years supporting  families and schools to navigate complex situations and find practical solutions that make a positive difference to a child or young person’s wellbeing

Qualifications and Memberships

I am a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and am registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC)

I have a Doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Dundee, along with Masters and Postgraduate qualifications from UK universities. Over the years, I have developed expertise in research, teaching, and therapeutic approaches such as EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness.

I  have also worked as a partner tutor at the University of Dundee, and am a chief supervisor and assessor for the British Psychological Society, contributing to the training of educational psychologists.

I have a particular passion for supporting children with learning difficulties and disabilities, sharing insights through research, articles, delivering talks, and writing a practical book for education staff. I am also a member of the British Academy of Childhood Disability.

My focus is rooted in using a flexible and empowering approach to support development and mental health.

I believe that a child’s development is shaped by the environments they encounter and by how their needs are understood. The language we use to talk about a child’s diagnosis, strengths, and challenges influences how they see themselves and how others respond to them.

My approach is flexible and creative, combining therapeutic techniques with evidence-based strategies that empower teachers, parents, and carers to support children and young people’s development and enhance their mental health.

A Comfortable and Supportive Space

I create a calm and welcoming environment where children, young people, families, and professionals feel they can share their thoughts and concerns openly. Whether we meet in my garden room, within a school, or in another organisation, I listen carefully to understand what people say – and what their behaviours communicate – to provide support that is personal and effective.

Values That Guide My Work:

  • Building warm, trusting relationships with children, young people, families, educators, and professionals.

  • Working closely with parents, carers, and educators to understand and support children and young people’s needs.

  • Combining creative therapeutic approaches with strategies that work in real-life settings.

  • Helping education staff, professionals, parents, and carers feel confident about responding to children’s needs through greater understanding and practical tools.

  • Staying curious and informed through ongoing research and writing.

  • "I really appreciate the focus on strengths and Kirstie's lovely manner working with our son. He really enjoys coming and so do we! We have learned so much already about his needs and what works and doesn’t and it’s also just nice to be able to check and get reassurance about some of the things we are already doing."

  • "Kirstie has supported our staff to better understand the needs of pupils with the most complex needs. Her relentless positivity has brought a refreshed willingness to find solutions and work as a team to look for better outcomes for the young people. Kirstie's book provides practical scaffolding to empower staff to assess and implement strategies which help young people in a variety of different ways. The use of these scaffolds has upskilled the whole staff team, and this has contributed significantly to our school ethos."

Her natural warmth and immense knowledge and experience in the field of learning difficulties ensured that everyone was fully engaged, and her insights have helped us all develop our practice. As a team, we feel much more confident and I can’t recommend Kirstie’s courses highly enough."
